Welcome to Athens

So we got into Athens via Milan at about 1.30am. After a long taxi ride through the centre of Athens, we got to our hotel. We opened the curtains and walked onto the balcony and this is what we saw....

A brief sojourn to Malta

The Desert Rat and I popped over to Malta for a long weekend of R&R. This was the view from our hotel balcony. Note the lightening in the second photo.

Lunch at Leeuwin

When we were in Perth, the Desert Rat and I managed to slip away to Margaret River for a few days. Of couse we headed off to Leeuwin Estate, where we got married. We spent a delightful afternoon eating a fine lunch and drinking some fabulous wine, before being collected by the taxi.

Margaret River is of course not all about food and wine - here are a couple of scenic shots...

Our little piece of Australia

For those of you who don't know, the Desert Rat and I bought a small farm at the start of this year. It is located at Avenue Range in South Australia (between Naracoorte and Kingston). It is approximately 330 acres, with just over half of it being good pasture and the other part being heritage scrub (bushland that is part of a bigger block of bush, and is protected against any clearing or development). We lease it to my sister who has about 80 head of cattle grazing there at present. It has been a fanastic winter with lots and lots of rain, so there is loads of feed on there at the moment. The Desert Rat and I only saw it for the first time in July and were taken back firstly about how big it is as well as how beautiful the country is there. These are some photos from our farm, which we have named Bearnaraigh after the Hebridian Island.

High Tea in Windsor

On a cold, wet, overcast summers day in England it seemed a perfect time to head out of the London city limits and go exploring. This time the destination was Windsor. Queen Vic was was waiting to welcome us, though we quickly ran past to get to the pub for a pint!
The current Queen was apparently in town but didn't invite us in for a sherry, so we wandered around Windsor Castle with the other tourists, taking in the sights.

After our (near) brush with royalty, it seemed only appropriate to stop into a nice tea room for high tea. All, I can say was that as scrumptious as it all was, there was no physical way we could possibly finish the plates of sandwiches, cakes and scones we were presented with!
