On the 16 May, we had a rare treat when the opera 'The Barber of Seville' was performed at the Roman theatre at Sabratha. The theatre was restored many years ago to reflect some of its former glory from 2000 years ago and is perfect for such an event. We were lucky enough to to find out about it by chance and obviously jumped at the chance to attend. The performance was coordinated by the French Cultural Institute here in Tripoli and put on by an Italian Opera Group. The singers were fabulous and the acoustics in the open air theatre were magnificent. A special moment was was when there was a moment of silence so that you could hear the sea which is only a few metres behind the stage. It was incredible to think that the Romans had sat where we sat (I wonder if they brought cushions and a picnic too?). Anyway, it was an incredible experience and we feel very privledged to have attended.

In the footsteps of French Royalty
On a sunny Friday morning, the Desert Rat and I decided to get the train out to Versailles. Apparently so did several thousand other tourists and we were greeted with queues that looked like were going to take a few hours to get into the palace.
Thus, we made a decision to skip the inside bits and spend the day exploring the vast gardens of the Vesailles Palace. We had lanch sitting by the canal and walked for miles through the gardens, getting some landscaping ideas for our garden back home. A lovely day was had by all!

Why the hell don't French Women get fat???
It's just not fair!!
Anyway, this is just some of the many fine meals we enjoyed in Paris.
