Ma Salaama

So our time here in Libya is almost over - we will be at the airport this time in 2 days. It is quite amazing that we first came here on our reccy trip 3 years ago. The Desert Rat moved here in April 2007 and I followed three months later. It has been an amazing time, and we feel humbled by the the experience of not only living in such a unique place but by all the travel we have had the opportunity to undertake. We hope that the travels and adventures will continue and so plan to keep putting new postings on The Camel Diaries. In fact, we are heading off to the South Island of New Zealand at the end of January, so watch this space..

But in the meantime, Ma Salaama (Good bye) to Tripoli.....

Some final shots of the Medina

On our last weekend in Tripoli, we went for a wander around the Old City for one last time....

Last Days in the Camel House

After getting back from our Christmas trip to the UK, the Desert Rat and I spent our last week in the Camel House packing up and getting ready to move out. I think that we will never again live in a house that has it's own camel shaped pool, which has its pros and cons! Anyway, we left just as the oranges were ripening up. We will miss the Camel House....

Winter Wonderland

The Desert Rat and I left the unseasonly warm Tripoli to spend Christmas with his family. First stop was Bangor. This was the view from the front of the house when we woke on the Sunday before Christmas:
We then headed off to Edinburgh, which too had experienced some snow. As an Aussie who didn't see proper snow until I was 28 years old, I still think it is so exciting!! Anyway, the centre of Edinburgh looked beautiful.

And of course you can't have snow without some snowmen. The Desert Rat worked hard on these ones, much to the delight of our 2 year old nephew!

Parisian Felines

Across the road from where we have been staying in Paris is the Monmatre Cemetry. It is a lovely, serene place to go for a walk and escape the business of Paris. This time while I was there, I kept seeing grey cats every corner I turned. Anyway, as someone who used to own a grey cat, I thought they were pretty cool...

Sacre Coeur

One of my favourite places ever is Sacre Coeur and the surrounding area. Thus, I had to make one last visit, and it was of course as beautiful as ever.

Couldn't resist this shot - these ones were for sale outside Sacre Coeur, but can be found absolutely everywhere.

Wandering Around Monmatre

Whilst the Desert Rat was working, I took the opportunity to go for a wander around the area we were staying in.

The Lights of Paris

On the way back from the US, we had to spend a few nights in Paris as the Desert Rat had some work there. Here are a couple of night shots that he took, showing off how pretty the city can look at night.

Street Art in Brooklyn

There was lots of street art around where were staying which I thought was pretty cool.
